Sino-German Energy Transition project shares project outcomes at BETD

#BETD22 side events on capacity adequacy & flexibility and E-mobility & RE integration

With growing shares of variable renewable energy, flexibility measures and adequate planning of dispatchable generation and energy infrastructure play an increasingly important role for security of supply in the future energy system. In the GIZ led project Sino-German Energy Transition (EnTrans, supported by BMWK), experts worked on two interconnected policy reports, of which one aims to analyse and evaluate measures providing flexibility in power systems, while also executing quantitative modelling for future assessment.  A second component of the analysis includes a qualitative assessment of on various capacity planning methodologies used in Germany and Europe to support the integration of variable renewable energies while preserving security of supply.

On a BETD22 side event on 31 March, the project released the second, concluding study and invited German and Chinese experts to exchange on flexibility potentials, their utility to the power system, and methodologies for adequacy assessments, as well as lessons learnt for China.

On 1 April, the EnTrans project continued sharing research results on e-mobility and RE integration in urban / rural areas, as GIZ and its partnering think tanks have executed two mirror studies in China and Germany that will focus on best practice for advanced EV charging infrastructure and efficient investment in urban areas and model the potential of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging in rural communities. The final studies will follow and be updated on www.energypartnership.cn soon.
