On 5 December 2017 the Sino-German Energy Partnership held the Sino-German Energy Efficiency Expert Roundtable in Beijing to present the Chinese editions of the BMWi publications „Green Paper on Energy Efficiency“, “Energy Efficiency Strategy for Buildings” and FLiB publication „Air Tightness in Bulidings”. All three publications, which are now available in Chinese, give input for Chinese decision makers on future actions related to energy efficiency. The Green Paper on Energy Efficiency, for instance, formulates key questions and areas of action for the long-term reduction of energy consumption, such as prioritizing energy efficiency, continuous development of political instruments and coherent policies at the a national and European level. China is the largest energy consumer in the world, relying on coal to meet two-thirds of its primary energy needs. Its energy consumption increased more than sevenfold between 1980 and 2015, and is expected to double over the next two decades. Nonetheless, China has been on the fast track to improve its energy efficiency and has made the reduction of energy intensity one of its top priorities for the coming years. The event was co-hosted by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MoHURD). More than 50 experts participated in the event, among them representatives from the National Energy Conservation Center (NECC), the Chinese Academy of Building Research (CABR) and the Industry.
